Just so you know, Lisa Rowe is an actual person. She's not a "work of fiction," there was an actual woman named Lisa Rowe from McLean Hospital that befriended Susanna Kaysen. I didn't think non-fictional people were applicable?

Usually no, real people/Celebs/ECT aren’t applicable. However in this case because the film Girl, Interrupted which was/is a film adaption of the author Susanna Kaysen's memoir. It falls into fandom which we, the mods, deem acceptable for applying/playing in Lennox House. We look at each case differently, so, if you have a character/characters that you might be unsure of, please we welcome emails, and/or comments left here. Hope I was able to answer your question appropriately.

Hello. I was just wandering if you allow double PBs? like example; Dean Winchester is already taken, do you accept Jensen from Dark Angel also?

Hello,

Sorry for not replying sooner. Let me check with the other mod before giving you a definite answer. Although being the game is panfandom I would say yes, however let me confer with the other mod. And I will get back to you soon as I speak with her.

Questions? Mmh, yeah, got plenty. I already apologize for the amount of questions I’m going to ask. :) Let’s start with the simple ones: What does a typical day of a patient look like? Where is a patient allowed to wander around? Where do our pups sleep? What about the meds, is every patient forced to take them? What do the patients remember about their arrival at Lennox? Is it like a blurry mess or do they actually remember everything? In this case, what is everything?

Alright, that's it for the first round. ^^

Lennox House is filled with rather neglectful doctors and therapists, so the patients are pretty much left to their own devices. Security, however is high. It would be incredibly difficult to escape with all the locked doors and winding hallways. There aren't many activities or resources either but of what the institution does provide is a "Social Room," (commonly referred to as the "Theater" by patients because it has a stage) a cafeteria and library (but access is restricted to only those who behave).

Since the RPG takes place during the 1950s and at the type of horrid facility that accepts bribes from parents who wish to lock up their children and forget about them (as seen in "Sucker Punch"), it is not a far stretch to say that the "treatment" the patients are provided with by some of the more masochistic doctors is terribly barbaric and outdated. Some of these may include ice-baths, electric shock therapy and perhaps even lobotomies. Of the more helpful doctors there is always talk therapy, meditation, arts and crafts, musical therapy and the like.

Lennox House is a Co-Ed facility and the patients are allowed to interact with people of the opposite gender. However, come after "curfew" 9:00pm, men are sent off to the east wing and women to the west. There are two different types of rooms; double and triple. Double rooms house two patients of the same gender and triples will sleep three. Solitary confinement is designated for those individuals who "do not play well with others" and it is a punishment which usually goes hand in hand with hours of malnourishment in a dark, tiny, padded cell.

Medication is assigned by a patient Psychiatrist only. They are each handed out their pills at a set time each night and morning, being called by name. The nurses administer the medication and water, then check to make sure the patient is taking it. HOWEVER, many of the patients find ways to hide and horde medication by keeping it under their tongue on checks or simply shoving them into their uniform pockets. It is a useful trading tool in the hospital.

In terms of their arrival, that is purely up to the player to come with whatever back-story they would like to. The patient could remember everything or nothing. They could be truly insane or not insane at all. They could accept their position or become hell-bent on finding a way out of there.

Hope that helps! I'm intending on making a "dormitories" page and assignment soon with a map of the hospital and whatnot. Players will be able to request bunking for their characters as well.

Thank you so much! :D

Just one quick question. Do you know what types of meds are used for the different patients? I guess they are the once that were used in the 1950s. Like drugs were used like opiates and amphetamines against depression? If you do not know, I can try to look it up. Just thought that I could ask first before I consult our library. ^^

You know... I definitely will look up more about this and add it to our Reference Page! I actually know tons about psych meds but only modern ones so it'll be great to look up some for the community! :)

Btw, you inspired me to finishTHIS tonight ^_^!

Could you please transfer that knowledge into my head? My brain is immune to learning and I need to know that kind of stuff in about two months. :D The horrible thing is that I've already known it once for a test and forgot about 90% of it. :-( Well, if I end up in our library being sick and tired of learning, I can help you. ^^ And if I find something out, I will let you know. :-)

Uuuh, great! Wait, I will get my dice and will leave the descision about Sirius' bed to it. ^^

Uhhh, great! :D Sirius will make sure to break each single one of them. ;-)

I'm also thrilled to see that you've created a map of Sirius' future home. Awesome work!

Did I mention that Sirius is going to out himself as a wizard in a few days? ^^ In front of half the patients and staff members, of course. Like "they tell me that I am crazy because I think I'm a wizard, I am a bloody wizard, look!' I'm looking forward to see how everyone reacts, especially the part of the staff who hasn't got a clue about the weirdness of this place. xD

Questions! :)

2011-06-01 06:44 pm UTC (link)
Abilities... we've still got them, right? And since the games takes place in 1955... does that mean characters from other times were transported to the past?

Also with Jack's diagnosis? I'm pretty sure once they get talking to him or see all the flirting (inbetween him trying to escape lol), he'll get labeled as a Nympho too. ;)

[info]lennoxhousemod

Yes, you still have your abilities and characters not from the 1950s can either have been mysteriously transported to that time period or by made into AU timelines to have their story set in that time period.

Nymphomania is an obscure secondary diagnosis that is rarely given because it is considered out-dated and commonly a side-effect of other disorders such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and Bi-Polar Disorder. Much like a phobia is a side-effect of a person with Paranoid Personality Disorder.

However, if you would refer this included on the Taken page, we're willing to work with you.

Uuuhh, quick question to the diagnosis as well. The diagnosis are from DSM-IV and ICD-10 as I can see it. So, they are not very 1950s. I'm consindering playing a therapist from the modern world and I try to figure out how long it would take her to notice that something is completly wrong with this place. Do they have something like modern manuals in their, let's say, library? And what about the closest village? How far is it away?

By the way, sorry that I ask so many question. :-)

Right, that is because some of the doctors are from the 1950s while other's are modern day so the diagnosises would vary accordingly. For example on the Taken's page there is MPD which have been revamped modern day to DID and "Manic Depression" is also an outdated term best equated with the diagnosis "Bi-Polar Disorder." But basically I like to say it's the SOS (Same Ol' Shit!) LOL

Hello lovely Moderators! Before I complete and submit an application to your game I have a few pertinent questions that will determine whether or not I can indeed apply.

1) Characters from unadapted books are accepted, yes?

2) Is there a limit to the ages of patients? The character which I wish to play is barely fifteen years old and looks a few years younger. He is, however, from a fantasy world in which one achieves adulthood at thirteen years and is quite mature. Would this be acceptable or is he too young?

3) Are we allowed to play characters who are not human? My character appears to be a homo sapien but is in canon revealed as a breed of monster (created by magic merging with a human corpse). If humanoids are not allowed, can he be assumed human for the purpose of the game?

Many thanks!

1) Of course! All fandoms are welcome!

2) No, there is no age limit. In fact, I believe our youngest patient is five years old!

3) Yes, you can play non-human characters and he can be assumed human by the doctors and/or patients if you like.

Yet another question from me--- although this one is for future reference and plot material rather than a pre-application necessity. I apologize for the badgering! Is there some form of library or method of getting books in Lennox House? Or will they have to be bribed/smuggled out of the staff?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]lennoxhousemod
2011-06-29 06:47 pm UTC (link)
There most certainly is a library! In fact, it is one of the only pleasures the patients are permitted to take part in. Though, I'd imagine it being rather small, perhaps just a collection of books on a few shelves in the "Theater". If you'd like, I can add this to the map of our floor plan. If you're character is familiar with one of the nicer doctors, they could bring them a specific book that might not be in the library or if the book is of a questionable nature, there are plenty of dirty orderlies willing to bargain. Hope that helps :)

Addition of the library to a floor plan would be invaluable to both myself and likely others! Thank you!

I apologize for the persistent questions. I like being well informed so as not to misstep in the community. My application is nearly complete and I was wondering what the terms of the adjacent storyline community were. Is posting in it only available to members or are we allowed to make an entry before our applications have begun processing?

The library has been added to the floor plan! A short description of the "accommodations" of the hospital is to come soon as well.

If you would like to have access to the StoryLine community before applying, that is manageable, sure :) Which journal would you like me to invite?

Question!

What do the patient rooms look like? The hospital itself? White walls, peeling paint, sterile and orderly, etc? I'm a very visual person and being able to see it in my head helps when I write.

Thanks :)

I can provide some pictures from the Sucker Punch movie if you'd like, since that is what the hospital is based on. But, yes white painted cinder block walls, definitely peeling paint and chipping, crumbling plaster ceilings/walls, tiled floors. I can't say that it is very sterile or orderly though. There are no janitors to clean up the place, only patients on "cleaning duty." There are heavy metal doors and bared windows. I'll get back to you as soon as I do some screen-caps.

Three questions/comments: 1) I am realitively sure the answer to this is yes, but are original characters welcome to apply? 2) If yes, then would related/married characters be admissable? 3) Just as a heads up, as a psychologist by profession and a Sucker Punch lover, I am so excited about this SL and would love to consult on things if the need arises.

I warn that I will have numerous questions for the wrangling of this character. I do hope that is not an imposition! The present queries are as follows:
1. It was mentioned that it is our choice whether our characters are really fiction brought to life or genuinely mad. I and my partner, who will be applying with me, would like to take the latter option. Is it alright if they are not who they think they are and we include an equally detailed backstory of The Truth accompanying their character history?
2. Is it possible for characters to move in and out of their delusional alternate reality while in the asylum? Can they experience lapses in grounded consciousness and retreat into their world and/or perceive other patients as being characters in the canon they originate from?
3. As they are genuinely mentally ill is it alright if we portray them with specific disorders prior to a formal diagnosis by the Moderators? (I say 'we' repeatedly because mine and my partners characters share the rare disorder Folie simultanée and thus possess identical symptoms and delusions.)

1) Oy, yes. There are quite a few patiently who are genuinely insane, actually. Jack Torrance, for example, is pretty off his rocker! LOL

2) As a matter of fact, it would actually be WONDERFUL to have MORE of that since the game is based on "Sucker Punch" and that is a running theme through-out the movie. We have some players who do that already, actually. Alice Kingsleigh, from 'Alice in Wonderland' has imagined herself falling down the rabbit hole while in actuality she was plummeting down a flight of stairs! ;_;

3) All disorders are welcome! Ha-ha! It sounds quite interesting! :)
