Quick Reference Page

I've complied a few helpful links that I thought were extremely informative. Each include a quick reference guide of symptoms that you can read through to gauge whether or not they suit your character.

Diagnosises and Psychological Disorders

Personality Disorders includes information on disorders such as B.P.D- Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial (Sociopathic) and O.C.D- Obsessive Compulsive.

Depression describes a bit about the different types of depression, specifically major versus bipolar.

Bipolar I and Bipolar II have varying symptoms. This site describes the differences between the two diagnosises.

Panic and PTSD describes panic attacks, what they feel like and what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is as well as how it might develop.

Eating disorders is a wikipedia link describing the different types of eating disorders and what they entail, who they usually effect.

Finally, I thought these two disorders deserved their own links because they are often mistaken for each other and misunderstood. It's important to make the distinction between Schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder).

Common Medications Prescribed/Developed in the 1950s
(Listed as "Chemical Name | Brand Name")

Chlorpromazine HCL | Thorazine is described as the "Chemical Lobotomy" for it's heavy sedation effects. It was used to treat psychosis.

Methadone an opiod used to treat addiction.

Opiods medication derived from drugs such as Heroin and Oppium to treat depression in the 1950s. They are highly addictive, have tranquilizing effects and cause severe withdrawal symptoms. Used to treat depression and Eating Disorders in the 1950s.

Psychostimulants or "Uppers" are usually derived from natural sources like the cocoa-bean and prescribed to battle depression. They can be rather addicting and were rarely prescribed in the 1950s.
